Ever stared out the window, a cup of lukewarm coffee in hand, and truly wondered about the lives you didn’t live? The career path you almost took, the distant city you considered moving to, or how things would be if that one chance encounter had played out differently? We all carry a universe of “what ifs” within us, countless alternate realities shimmering just beyond our reach. Now, imagine a way to actually step into them. I am thrilled to announce The Infinite Archive – A Game of Possibilities, a brand-new solo role-playing game that turns that universal curiosity into a captivating, reflective, and incredibly fun experience!
What is The Infinite Archive?
Forget battling dragons or galactic empires (unless that’s your “what if”!). The Infinite Archive invites you into a unique, shifting, and deeply personal space that mirrors our world. It might manifest as a sprawling public library where every book holds a life story, a nostalgic arcade where each cabinet plays out a different destiny, or a cluttered antique shop where every forgotten trinket is a gateway to another reality.
This game is designed for self-exploration, but it’s also a fantastic sandbox for any fantasy character you’ve ever dreamed of. You’ll create a character (you, a daring adventurer, a quiet scholar – whoever you wish!), define a pivotal moment that brings them to the Archive’s threshold, and then let the game guide you.
How Does it Work?
The Infinite Archive was inspired on the concept of Matt Haig’s Novel The Midnight Library.
Playing The Infinite Archive is a journey of discovery:
- Enter the Archive: A simple dice roll determines which familiar yet fantastical location you enter. Will it be a bustling Farmers Market, a dusty Pawn Shop, or perhaps your favorite Arcade Hall?
- Meet Your Guide: A unique, neutral Librarian/Clerk/Archivist figure will be your subtle companion, offering observations as you explore.
- Choose a Life: You’ll interact with an “item” in your chosen location (a book, a record, a specific plant, a worn-out tool) and a “Life Seed” prompt will reveal the core “what if” of the life you’re about to inhabit.
- Experience a Scene: Then, you’re transported! You’ll immerse yourself in a single, pivotal scene from that alternate life. A “Scene Focus” roll determines the nature of this moment.
- Reflect and Return: After each vivid experience, you’ll return to the Archive to reflect on what you’ve learned. How did that life feel? What insights does it offer for your own choices? The cycle continues for as long as you wish to explore.
